about selden : manufacturing

Selden is first and foremost an expert manufacturer. The site is purpose built, highly specified and because of a policy of continual reinvestment, extremely up to date and efficient. Selden operates under ISO 9001 quality management and ISO 14001 environmental regimes.

Core operations include the manufacture and filling of water-based liquids into plastic bottles ranging from 250ml to 5ltr, typically packed in cardboard outers, distributed on pallets. Aerosols are filled mainly with butane/propane, but C02 is also used when appropriate.

Manufacturing is efficient, controlled by computer with mass meters and load cells ensuring a "right first time every time" quality product. Raw materials are typically brought in bulk tankers, currently there are 40 tanks ranging in capacity from 10,000 to 50,000 litres. Purchasing raw materials in this form not only makes production more efficient, but we are able to source super concentrate versions of key items, both features considerably reduce the incoming transport and packaging environmental impact.

Blending is an exact science, mixing vessels are feed automatically through mass meters, these batch process tanks vary in capacity and capability. Currently there are 20 such tanks varying from 2,500 to 32,000 litres, some with internal heating, mixers of various speeds are utilised to optimise product performance. Where possible we are investing in continuous process systems, currently we have 2 production lines rated at 200 litres per minute. Continuous production is extremely efficient, produces negligible waste and has the lowest environmental impact of all our processes.

Current production levels exceed 3 million litres per month.
